Edible Designs was created by its owner Chef Karen Johnson in 2003. “I wanted to use my art background as well as my culinary and pastry arts degrees (a Johnson and Wales Grad).
I started making edible displays for the hotels and country clubs where I worked. I loved doing these types of decorations, because the possibilities are endless. I found I could make anything you could imagine edible. I also, could use all of my art and pastry education.
I have since started producing more edible decorations due to the recall of plastic toy cake decorations. (On August 2, 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall on select Fisher-Price Inc. plastic toys identified as containing excessive amounts of lead paint. This recall affected approximately 967,000 items, some of which may have been used as cake decorations, thereby ending up in the hands of young children. As a result, parents are more aware of these safety issues and have taken steps to limit their children’s exposure to such risks.)
