As a wedding editor and planner for Elegala.com Weddings, I've noticed the cash bar issue to be the one hot-button topic that brides debate year after year.  Traditional etiquette proclaims cash bars a no-no.  The reasoning?  A host would never require a guest to purchase a cocktail in their own home, so why would a host think that it's appropriate to make guests pay at an event at a reception hall? A guest is still a guest - regardless of where the party takes place.

Even though this is the "rule," many brides and grooms choose to host cash bars, insisting that it's the only cost effective way to host their reception.  What are your thoughts?  Would you ever host a cash bar?  Are their alternative ways a couple can save money without requiring their guests to buy their own drinks?
