ORIGINAL POST:
Try getting married on a night than Saturday, this tends to save you a lot of money when booking a reception hall, many vendors will give a discount if you schedule on an off day.

If the weather permits, consider getting married in a backyard, or at a park.

Consider a potluck luncheon, where you ask family members to help out with the food.

And my final suggestion, USE LOCAL VENDORS! You may think that doing it yourself is always cheaper, but I found that when it came down to it, there were some things I could do cheaper, but there were lots of things that I ended up paying more for, to do it myself! My best friend recently went into wedding decorating and looking at the prices of their company, I was shocked to see how affordable it could be. And what a headache it would have saved me. It is your day, so spend just enough so that you are not worried about anything except your future spouse.

I hope that helps.

Another thought to bring the cost of your wedding day down is to choose a less "prime" month to marry in. This of course varies by state. For instance, in California, June, July, and September are the high prime months whereas if you were to marry in January, February, or April, you may be able to obtain better pricing from your vendors. As a wedding planner, I will often council my clients about the benefits of choosing months other than the prime months to marry.

Lastly, when looking for a reception site, consider contacting the local visitors bureau. They may actually be able to email various hotels, and other venues on your behalf and essentially put your event "out to bid." You may be amazed at the cost savings to you and to any out of town guests securing room rates via this route.

I would totally agree with the comment to use local vendors. I am a wedding and event planner and we see this problem all the time. There are times we attempt to do printing projects on our own and it would have been more economical and less stress to just order from one of our 30 albums. Plus, using local vendors helps the economy. You can't beat that!
