Hey guys, Just curious...How important is having a wedding video to you guys? I mean a professional wedding video as opposed to one shot by say..."Uncle Bob?" I'm primarily a wedding photographer, but I still shoot an occasional video. Here's one I shot in Myrtle Beach. http://www.s194253705.onlinehome.us/LucyandBen/ (I think you may have to copy and past the link into your browser)

very important.

however, you got your names wrong.

it is not ..."Uncle Bob" but rather ..."Uncle Charlie."

ask any videographer who is a member of any established videography association they will verify this.

I know that coming from a videographer, this sounds biased but a wedding video is something you will treasure in the future.  Here's my experience.  The videographer is usually one of the very last people to get booked.  The photographer, caterer, and venues are just about always the first.  I tell everyone to get those things first and then come to me.  I've had clients that watched the video a million times and then I have some that watch it on their anniversary and then I have some that have only watched it once or twice.  Usually, the parents watch it the most!

Since I do wedding videos, I have a wedding video.  Admittedly, I only watched it a couple of times in 7 years, however, it is very much treasured.  In that video are my wife's three grandparents surviving at the time, my aunt, my sister, and my wife's great aunt whom are all deceased now.  We have pictures but the video is what shows them talking and having a great time.  I filmed a wedding this weekend that the couple was an older couple and one of their grandmothers was dancing as if she was a teenager!  Pictures are great but the video is irreplaceable for things like that.

Here's a thought.  I actually started silently offering a film only option.  For about half the cost, I am willing to come in and film it professionally as any other video.  I use multiple cameras, microphones, the whole works with the idea that it can be edited into a quality video later.  Ask your potential videographers if they will do that.  For me, it's great.  I film it, you have a video, and I don't have to spend a bunch of time in the editing room!  Plus, I still get fed at the reception and enjoy your cake!

I am a videgrapher as well and I concur.
Video isn't for now, but rather for the future.

Video is the only medium that lets you see and hear what someone was like.
Photography has it's place, and is still a must in my book for an event.

But only video can let your children see and hear what their grandparents were like,, or even how full of life mommy and daddy weer on their wedding day.

Hi,
I'm a professional videographer, and what I know from my experience, the value of having the video increases after the wedding, when everyone is interested to see and remember those great moments from the wedding day.
