As a web design company with many years of experience, we have noticed many couples have begun to utilize the way of announcing their special day to their friends and family via a personalized website. We have found that many of these couples have ran into what we call, the fakes.
If you decide to have your own personal website for your special day, we recommend that you follow these guidelines, for your safety, to avoid the fakes, and to keep your information and personal life from being exploited without your consent.
1. Do not put your Name, personal address, reception address, phone number, etc on your website!
Why?
There has been a recent increase of what the news media has called, "The uninvited guest" to many wedding events of late. Yes, they will find your wedding reception, dance with whoever they can, mingle and become acquainted, make up a wonderful story of how they know the bride, groom, family, or your aunt Merkel so well. Then, as they eat your food, they will sneak the gift cards, envelopes, and even some gifts into their pockets or vehicles, without you even noticing. So , keep your personal information, and especially your address, the event address off those websites. Instead, just simply say, if you would like the address of the event, please email me, or call me.
2. Watch out for the fake ads.
You should be able to get a decent personalized wedding website for free. But, read the fine print if you do so, as many of the free website companies, will sell your information to other companies.
3. Photo Selection
Be careful with the photos that you place on your website. Remember that your announcement can have your information on it, which can in turn be taken by those wedding bandits out there, or any "Scammer" who could take your identity, your information and try to steal all they can from you.
Sharing your special event with a website is a wonderful way to include your loved ones and friends throughout the world. Just keep those three tips mentioned above when creating your personal website.

Thanks for the tips... I looked up some local news and found that this very thing (wedding reception bandits) had happened in my own town. The lady would dress up and she even danced with the groom at the event. How sad. She then would have her daughter slip the envelopes into her dress pocket at different times. They said as soon as the couple cut the cake, that's when many of the cards disappeared. They were watching their video from their reception when they noticed the little girl slipping the cards into her pocket. They then asked their entire family who the girl was in the video, that danced with the groom. Nobody knew here, until she was caught at another wedding doing the same thing. They then found that she had been to over 14 wedding receptions and had stolen a combined total of over $25,000.00 in gifts.
I guess the lesson to be learned is do not publicize your wedding reception on the internet, better to just tell them to email you or call you for directions. Just post your photo and the date is all.
